The Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Angeles are trying to unload contracts as both teams had disappointing 2012 campaigns. Mike DiGiovanna, beat writer for the Los Angeles Angels suggested a possible trade involving both teams and players with atrocious contracts.

His suggestion was sending John Lackey from the Red Sox, to L.A. for Dan Haren and Vernon Wells. 

Now, before Red Sox fans or Angel fans overreact, it would be a win-win for both sides. 

The Red Sox have $31.5 million left in Lackey's contract. Wells still has $42 million left in his contract, plus add in Haren's $13.5 million he is owed in 2013. 

It looks like the Red Sox will lose, but the Angels would certainly add cash in whatever deal they make for Wells. 

Lackey has been lackluster, no pun intended, going 26-23 in 61 starts while in Boston. Wells is aging and only hit 11 homers driving in 28 RBI. The catch in this deal is Dan Haren. 

He is the most functional piece in this deal. He struggles last season with a 12-14 record and 4.33 ERA in 30 starts. However, in 2011 he threw 238.1 innings and won 16 games, proving he can still get it done on the pitching mound. 

The Angels and Red Sox are looking to bring change to their lineups as both teams struggled. The Angels paid big bucks for Albert Pujols and C.J. Wilson, yet they had did not make the playoffs.

The Red Sox simply could not stay healthy and win with the players they had left in their roster.
