Chip Kelly is admitting that right now his play calling might be a little off. The Philadelphia Eagles have the offensive weapons to make the team championship contenders, yet they have not been able to fit all of the puzzle pieces together to get wins. Frustration is beginning to boil over as players are complaining about how they are being used. Heading into Week 5, will the rotation number change for Ryan Mathews and DeMarco Murray.
Following the loss to the Washington Redskins, Murray made it clear that he wants the ball more. The running back led the league last year in rushing and has yet to make any kind of impact on the field this year. As he continues to rotate with Mathews and Darren Sproles, Kelly is aware that giving the ball to the team's star might be wise, but he still favors the equal split.
"I want all of our guys at the running back and wide receiver spot to want the football," Kelly said, via ESPN.com. "I don't think you want someone who says I don't want the ball more. It's what you're looking for. Again, it's a team deal on the offensive side of the ball. Everybody needs the ball more."
Fantasy owners should not quit on Murray just yet. The Eagles are preparing to play the inconsistent defense of the New Orleans Saints and this could be a breakout game for the running back. The question is how many carries will he really get or will Mathews come in once again. There is also the issue of putting in Sproles as Sam Bradford struggles with the deep passes.
The issues with the Eagles' offense are plenty at the moment. Bradford told the media that he has no idea how to fix what is wrong. The quarterback is struggling, the wide receivers are dropping passes and the offensive line is not protecting well enough. Kelly shouldered much of the blame to the media and said that he must improve the play calling if the team is going to win.
"I've got to do a better job play calling," Kelly said, via ProFootballTalk.com. "They're not successful. You can't sit there and say it's working. We're not successful on first and second down. We haven't been successful in the first half of games. I think we have the right personnel here, no question."
If the Eagles lose to the New Orleans Saints, panic will be high. If Kelly was not facing job security questions now, he will then. Bradford will be questioned about his ability to lead the team. However, if Philadelphia can get a convincing win, all of the talk disappears.
