Two days after hiring Mike D'Anotni as their new head coach, the Los Angeles Lakers will face the San Antonio Spurs at Staples Center Tuesday at 10:30 p.m. ET.
Los Angeles made the hire late Sunday night, though it remains uncertain when D'Antoni -- who underwent knee replacement surgery recently -- will join the team. His first game likely won't be until at least Friday against Phoenix Suns, one of his former teams.
The Lakers regained their composure from their 1-4 start and are now riding a two game winning streak, with wins that came at home against the Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings.
Meanwhile, San Antonio are coming off a 112-109 road win against the Portland Trail Blazers.
The Spurs are being led by power forward Tim Duncan on the offensive end, averaging 18.9 points and 9.7 rebounds per game, as he had recorded four double-doubles to rank tied for fourth in the league in that category.
The Spurs won two of three meetings against the Lakers a season ago, including a 112-91 win as three-point road favorites at the Staples Center on April 17. Duncan led the way in averaging 18.0 points and 6.0 rebounds in the three contests.
