NFL News: Steven Jackson Signs With Patriots With Dion Lewis, LeGarrette Blount Out For Season

The New England Patriots have finally signed another running back after the loss of Dion Lewis and LeGarrette Blount.

Steven Jackson has finally found a team and a playoff berth by signing with the Patriots for a 1 year contract. Jackson only went to the playoffs once with an 8-8 St. Louis Rams team. Jackson never got to the Super Bowl but with only two playoff games under his belt Jackson will likely play in another with the Patriots.  Jackson will likely be the Patriots early down back as Brandon Bolden has been wildly ineffective.

Bolden was out touched by practice squad player Joey Iosefa in the Patriots week 15 game so the signing of Jackson makes a lot of sense.

The Patriots often do not rely on their running game to get them down the field however the lack of rushing yards that have been accumulated since Blount has been out has not been a positive sign. Between the two primary starters at running back in New England the Patriots had 42 rushing yards in Sunday's week 15 contest against the Titans.

Now with Jackson the Patriots have a goal line back who can use his power to push his way into the end zone or gain a couple of extra yards on earlier downs. James White should continue to be the passing down back as he has shown a tremendous ability to catch the ball and gain significant yards.
