NFL Rumors and News: Steve Smith Will Return In 2016, Puts Retirement Plans On Hold

Smith was originally slated to retire at the end of the 2015 season however after suffering a season ending Achilles injury halfway through the season, Smith clearly felt as if there was unfinished business.

Smith will be 37 however age is nothing but a number for one of the best receivers in recent memory. He is scheduled to make a cap friendly $3 million for the 2016 season so the Ravens will welcome back Smith with open arms. This has been a season of devastation for the Ravens as they have lost multiple members of their football team to season ending injuries.

5 Ravens wide receivers are currently on injured reserve with Smith including, Marlon Brown and Michael Campanaro both to back injuries, first round pick Breshad Perriman who suffered a PCL injury in pregame warm ups and was unable to play his first snap of NFL football.

The last two wide receivers lost for the season are Darren Waller with a hamstring injury and Cam Worthy with a foot injury that knocked him out of action for the season. The Ravens hope that Perriman and Smith can recover by the time the 2016 season rolls around so they can show the potential that both players would have brought to this offense in 2015.

The Ravens also saw Terrell Suggs (Achilles injury), Justin Forsett (Broken arm), Crockett Gillmore (back), Joe Flacco (Knee/ACL/MCL) and safety Matt Elam all go on IR this season. Hopefully these players can return from their injuries and make a solid run in 2016.
