Manchester United Transfer News: Kevin Strootman Interest Confirmed; Two Talented Defenders on Ferguson's Radar

Kevin Strootman's agent confirmed Manchester United's interest in the PSV Eindhoven midfielder, while Sir Alex Ferguson is looking at a couple of talented defenders to bring in next summer.

Strootman has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for quite a while now, and could again be on his way to the English Premier League after his agent Chiel Dekker said United were one of the leading candidates with his client preferring a move to England.

"All the top clubs in Europe know about Kevin, but a move to England next summer is his first priority and, yes, Manchester United and other big clubs in Europe have been in touch with me," Dekker told TalkSport.

A move in the January transfer window had been mooted, but the likelihood of the Dutch international joining a new club with the season ongoing are slim, after Strootman admitted he would like to win the Dutch league with his club before considering a move.

"A move abroad in the winter transfer window is by no means ideal," he told NUsport.

"That would only give you two weeks to adapt to your new surroundings. If a club really wants me, they will return in the summer.

"And it's not like I want to leave PSV at all costs in the summer. We will hopefully play in the Champions League again next season.

"Of course, I have ambition and I occasionally discuss certain clubs with my agent, Chiel Dekker, but a transfer is not on my mind all the time. I am happy at PSV and want to win the league title here first."

Meanwhile, Ferguson is trying to woo highly-rated St Etienne center-back Kurt Zouma, by inviting the 18-year-old to watch a game at Old Trafford and take a look at the facilities, according to the Daily Mirror.

Ferguson is trying to shake off interest from their neighbors Manchester City, with Zouma seen as one of the brightest young defenders in Europe.

United are also keeping an eye on Italian international defender Angelo Ogbonna, as a direct replacement for Rio Ferdinand, who is expected to either retire or leave the club at the end of the season.

The Torino center-half is regarded as one of the best defenders in the Italian Serie A, with several of the top clubs interested in sealing his signature.

Ferguson's scouts have watched the 24-year-old in the last two Serie A games, and United have intensified their interest owing to the uncertain future surrounding Ferdinand, and the club's recent problems in defense.
