With Arsenal being linked with some of the top strikers in Europe, including Edinson Cavani and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Arsene Wenger is also reportedly keeping an eye on two players from England --- Nikica Jelavic and Wilfried Zaha.
Everton forward Jelavic has been a revelation since signing from Rangers, and was linked with a move to the Emirates prior to the Toffees signing the talented striker.
Jelavic, whose side will face Arsenal in Wednesday's crucial English Premier League game, has reportedly had a major bust-up with teammate and summer signing Kevin Mirallas.
The duo reportedly fell out after Jelavic accused Mirallas of being selfish in the Merseyside Derby against Liverpool last month, according to the Daily Express. The two players' relationship has soured further in recent days, with Jelavic set to hand in a transfer request, which in turn might pique the interest of Wenger.
Another player that Arsenal has been linked with is young Crystal Palace winger Zaha. The 20-year-old is one of the most sought after players in England with every major club including Manchester City, Liverpool and Manchester United linked with a move.
But according to widespread reports, Wenger is set to make a firm move for Zaha, by putting in an initial £9 million ($14.4 million) bid in January. If a bidding war arises, Arsenal might lose out on the player, which is the reason why Wenger is trying to seal Zaha's signature as quickly as possible.
When asked about his interest in Zaha, Wenger, while admitting he was one of the players being looked at, said, in his usual coy manner, he was not specifically a priority target.
"We are looking at every player who could strengthen our squad -- but he is not more on the list than anyone else," Wenger said.
The Arsenal manager also admitted he was definitely in the market for players in January, but as always said he would only buy someone if he found the right player that can add to the current squad. "We have a good squad, I believe that these players have a fantastic attitude," he said. "They deserve success and they will have success.
"We will be on the market if we find the real top, top, top player, we will be in the market. We have no fixed number, we look just at quality."
Arsenal made a lucrative £150 million ($240 million) deal with Emirates recently, with a considerable amount of that cash to be made available for Wenger to make his moves in the transfer market. The Arsenal boss, however, said he would not spend the money just for the sake of spending it.
"If we get that amount of money from sponsors it is not charity, it is because the sponsors feel that we act in the right way and with the right values," he added. "They reward that. Afterwards it is down to us to spend the money in the right way.
"There are two aspects to any deal -- one is the transfer (fee) and the other is the wages.
"The transfers for these kinds of players are not at £30 million ($48 million) today, they are at £50 million ($80 million) or £60 million ($96 million) and what has gone through the roof is the wages of these players.
"That is why people plead for financial fair play. Some clubs even pleaded that the new television money (for Premier League clubs) should not be used to increase wages because it gives huge problems to everybody."
