The Dallas Cowboys have been inundated with rumors since halfway through the regular season based off of who they would draft or pick up in free agency.
The top draft prospect at the running back position Ezekiel Elliott has expressed that he would love to run behind the Cowboys superb offensive line. At the fourth pick overall, some analysts may see that as too high to draft a running back and certainly the Cowboys have downplayed the importance of running backs since DeMarco Murray left. In reality the Cowboys did have the 9th rushing offense in the NFL so it is not exactly as if their plans did not work.
The Cowboys need a playmaker on offense besides Dez Bryant whether that comes from a running back or a wide receiver, that's their decision. One thing is certain with Elliott expressing a desire to play in Dallas the Cowboys will likely take that pretty seriously considering the prospect we are talking about.
Alabama star running back and Heisman Trophy winner Derrick Henry also has stated he would like to play for the Dallas Cowboys as well so there is no shortage of possibilities to what the Cowboys do with the fourth overall pick. The assumption that the Cowboys will take Carson Wentz or any quarterback besides Jared Goff at number 4 is absolutely ludicrous.
The Cowboys would likely pick up a solid veteran backup quarterback than draft a 2nd or 3rd round quarterback in the 1st round. The Cowboys will make a splash whether or not that is with Elliott is up to him. Elliott will look to impress the Cowboys and the rest of the NFL at the NFL Scouting Combine that begins on February 23rd.
