Chelsea Transfer Rumours: Blues Target Benat Will Not Be Sold on the Cheap, Say Real Betis; Terry Backtracks from Lampard Comments

Real Betis have warned Chelsea and Manchester City one of La Liga's brightest talents - Benat Etxebarria -- won't be allowed to leave on the cheap.

Benat has been one of the standout performers in the La Liga this season, leading Real Betis to a lofty fifth position at the halfway stage of the competition.

The 25-year-old's exploits have garnered attention from some of the biggest clubs in the world, with City and Chelsea thought to be leading the chase.

However, Betis manager Pepe Mel has insisted his star player will not leave for a low price, with interested clubs having to match the €20 million (£16.2 million, $26 million) buyout clause, despite having only a little over a year remaining in his contract.

"Benat's clause is €20 million and he will only leave for €20 million," Mel said. "To sell him for anything less would be a disaster.

"The club must defend its position and Benat knows that. To be able to go the market and find a replacement, the only number is €20 million. He has one more year left on his contract and he can fulfil that."

Benat is your typical deep-lying playmaker, able to act as the link between the defense and the attack, an aspect that Chelsea have been lacking at times this season.

David Luiz and Frank Lampard have done their bits for the team to cut out that deficiency, but adding Benat will definitely provide the Blues more fluency and openings for the front four of Juan Mata, Eden Hazard, Victor Moses/Oscar and Fernando Torres.

Meanwhile, John Terry was forced to backtrack on comments he made about the impending departure of Frank Lampard, with the club and manager Rafa Benitez not taking the captain's comments lightly.

Lampard's agent Steve Kutner was reported as saying his client would leave at the end of the season, comments he later refuted. Responding to Kutner's comments, Terry posted a photo of Lampard and himself with the FA Cup trophy, while saying: "Devastated is an understatement. We should retire the No8 in honour of Lamps."

The club were not amused by Terry's comments, with the defender quickly deleting the post, while Benitez expressed his "surprise" at Terry's reaction to Lampard's future.

"I didn't know (about Terry's comments)," Benítez said. "I was surprised when they told me but that's it.

"I know that in the next few months, we will maybe be talking about this issue (Lampard's future). But for me, he's (Lampard's) a good professional, a good player, who is doing well and working hard. I cannot do anything else, just bring the best from him."
