With all that could possibly go wrong for the Los Angeles Lakers unfolding before our very eyes, one question looms over the heads of the fans and players.
Will the Lakers make the playoffs?
"I think about it every day," Steve Nash said after their latest loss, Wednesday in San Antonio. "We've got to make some serious ground up here quickly. We're in deep, and we've got to find a way to scratch and claw and get to 48 wins."
The 48 wins are an important goal for the Lakers right now being that it's the average number of victories needed for the eighth and final playoff position in the Western Conference for the last five years. So in essence the Lakers (15-20) would have to go 33-14 the rest of the season to get to 48.
It's no reason for the Lakers, with the talented roster they have, to not be able to make the playoffs, but some basketball experts aren't on their side.
"I don't think they can make the playoffs," TNT analyst Chris Webber said after watching them lose to Houston on Tuesday. "Of course they should be able to do it, but the parity in the Western Conference is some of the best right now."
Though those are the negative thoughts from one expert, one fairly important voice still believes the Lakers can and will get into the playoffs, according to the Los Angeles Times.
"I still believe the Lakers can make the playoffs," Phil Jackson said in an email to The Times. "They might have to have a 'come to Jesus' moment to get their defense in order, but they have the talent."
