Chelsea have already agreed a deal with Atletico Madrid for the prolific Radamel Falcao, with the Colombian hotshot set to join the Stamford Bridge club in the summer, according to a report in the Spanish media.
The Blues have been linked with a move for Falcao for ages now, and Roman Abramovich has reportedly made the Colombian his No. 1 target for the summer.
Chelsea face competition from Real Madrid and Manchester City for the 26-year-old, but according to Punto Pelota, the Blues have a deal in place with Atletico, which was agreed in December, 2012.
Falcao was initially interested in a move to Real Madrid, according to the report, but Real president Florentino Perez did not want to ruin a friendly pact with Atletico of not making any hostile bids, leading to Chelsea landing the deal.
Falcao has a buyout clause of around £48 million ($74 million), which should not be a problem for Chelsea considering the wealth of Abramovich, although the Financial Fairplay regulations might be a stickler in completing the deal.
Young goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, currently on loan at Atletico, could be used as a makeweight, while there is a possibility of Fernando Torres returning to his old club, as the forward's poor form for Chelsea continues.
Rafa Benitez was named the interim manager of Chelsea, despite supporter unrest, to help Torres find his old form, but it hasn't quite worked out according to plan.
Torres failed to score in the Europa League game against Sparta Pague Thursday, despite being presented with several opportunities. Benitez though is confident the goals will come for his the striker soon.
"We have to create more opportunities and the strikers will score more goals," Benitez said.
"His work rate was really good and thanks to him the rest of the team, especially the second line of offensive players, they could create.
"His job was to push and run and keep their defenders deep so he could create space for the other players.
"Everybody expects from a striker just to score goals, but he's doing also a great job for the team."
Bringing Falcao, who almost guarantees goals, would make Chelsea a bigger threat for the English Premier League title next season, something they haven't seriously challenged for over the past couple of seasons.
