Matt Flynn and Russell Wilson are two quarterbacks working for the same organization. The Seattle Seahawks are a pretty lucky team being that they have two quarterbacks, one of which is expendable. Flynn is currently trade bait as the NFL 2013 Draft doesn't feature a lot of talent for teams shopping for quarterbacks. Will the Seahawks trade Flynn?
"We're going to listen to everything," said Seahawks general manager John Schneider at the NFL Combine. Seattle, like every other team in the NFL, is scouting talent in the 2013 draft. However, the quarterback class is thin and teams in the NFL want to win now.
Geno Smith, who quarterbacked at West Virginia for the Mountaineers, is considered to be one of the top guys in the draft, but analysts don't rank him as a first round sort of pick. So teams out there like the Kansas City Chiefs, Jacksonville Jaguars, New York Jets and Arizona Cardinals are looking for talent elsewhere.
In a regular season, guys like Flynn or even Alex Smith wouldn't be a hot commodity, but because they are experienced and have had success in their own ways, teams might be willing to offer a little extra. You can't blame Schneider for having the possible interests of shopping Flynn.
They offered him a three-year, $19 million deal after having one great game with the Green Bay Packers and last season, in the first year of his contract, Flynn made nine pass attempts before Wilson took control of the offense.
It would be wise to keep Flynn however. Wilson proved savvy, but the pistol offense really assisted the rookie quarterback. Having a running back like Marshawn Lynch to run the pistol with is extremely helpful as well. Offenses are bound to adjust to this scheme as more and more offenses are putting it to work.
What if Wilson gets injured? Then you hope which ever backup you pick up can provide as much offense as Flynn is capable of bringing.
Of course, if the offer is too tempting to resist and features a decent package, then why not do it? The Chiefs' Andy Reid said he'd listen to offers for the first round pick. The Seahawks are probably an offensive player or two away from being completely dominant. Their defense is pretty much perfect as it is.
Depending on the talent that surfaces during the NFL Combine, which kicks off Saturday, we can expect teams to have a better idea of who they would like to move or keep.
