Manchester United Transfer News: Wayne Rooney Could Move to PSG in the Summer as United Target West Brom Midfielder Yacob

Paris Saint Germain are plotting a sensational summer move for Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney, while the Red Devils are being linked with West Brom midfielder Claudio Yacob.

PSG are the latest club in a line of many to have been taken over by rich benefactors, to whom money is not an issue.

The French side have already made waves by signing the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Thiago Silva and David Beckham and Rooney could be the next player to make a move to Paris, according to the Times.

Rooney is not having the greatest of seasons when it comes to the goalscoring department, with Robin Van Persie clearly now the main man, when it comes to scoring goals.

Having said that though, the England international has struck up a nice partnership with the former Arsenal skipper, and there have been absolutely no signs of discontent from the former.

However, as reports of an impending move for Robert Lewandowski fail to die down, Rooney might indeed find himself surplus to requirements at Old Trafford, with Sir Alex Ferguson particularly ruthless when it comes to doing what he believes is for the good of the team - as the likes of Ruud Van Nistelrooy, Beckham and Dimitar Berbatov will certainly attest to.

PSG are reportedly planning a £40 million ($60 million) bid, and United might be tempted to accept the offer, with Rooney only having a little over two years left in his contract.

With the United frontman not getting any younger, there have been suggestions that he could be past his best, although, again there have been no clear signs of that, particularly if he fully adapts to the playmaking No. 10 role, which has suited him well this season.

The likelihood is Ferguson will consider letting go of one of his best players only if he seals the deal for Lewandowski, while the manager might also consider selling Rooney to generate funds to bring back Cristiano Ronaldo.

Meanwhile, Ferguson is reportedly considering making a move for West Brom midfielder Yacob, who has been one of the most efficient players for the Baggies this season.

The Argentine, who only signed for West Brom in the summer, has slotted into the defensive midfield role with ridiculous ease, and has been a major aspect of West Brom's success under Steve Clarke, who admitted interest in some of his players in the summer was inevitable.

"The club always tend to have a number of players who are on short-term or loan contracts," the Baggies manager said.

"And at the end of the season there is a possibility there will be three, four, five or six changes.

"We've had a really good season and maybe some other, bigger clubs will show an interest in some of the players we've got.

"Our job is to make sure that we have a number of targets ready to come in as and when we need to chase those targets."

United are in the market for a defensive midfielder in the summer, and have been strongly linked with Celtic's Victor Wanyama.

However, Yacob might be the cheaper alternative, and the fact that the 25-year-old also has Premier League experience will work in his favor.
