EPL Transfer News: Spurs to Dump Adebayor as Villas-Boas Lines Up Summer Moves for Damiao and Eder

Tottenham are ready to offload Emmanuel Adebayor in the summer in order to fund a move for either Leandro Damiao or Eder.

Adebayor has been far from impressive since making his move permanent this season, and Andre Villas-Boas is reportedly ready to let the Togo international go as he lines up other candidates.

Spurs have struggled with strikers this season, with Jermain Defoe suffering an injury and Adebayor missing a large chunk of the season due to his Africa Cup of Nations duty with Togo.

The former Arsenal and Manchester City forward, who made a £5 million move from the Etihad at the beginning of the season, has been a pale shadow of the player that impressed so much on loan at White Hart Lane last year.

Villas-Boas has now reportedly given up on the striker improving and is ready to cut his losses, by asking the soon-to-be 29-year-old to leave.

The Portuguese manager, who has been given permission to strengthen his squad considerably in view of the Champions League place that Spurs are currently on track to seal, is thinking about making yet another move for Damiao, despite saying the chances of signing the Brazilian were slim, according to the Evening Standard

If a move for the Internacional man, who is also wanted by several other European clubs including Napoli, does not materialize, Villas-Boas might turn his attentions towards Braga striker Eder, who he worked with at Academica three seasons ago.

The 25-year-old Portuguese international is a similar forward in terms of physique to Adebayor, but Villas-Boas thinks he will be a better fit.

Another player also on Spurs' radar is Aston Villa forward Christian Benteke; but again Tottenham face stiff competition from the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal for the Belgian international's signature.

Meanwhile, Gareth Bale insisted he has not modelled his game on Cristiano Ronaldo, although he did admit he watches the likes of the Portuguese and Lionel Messi and tries to learn as much as possible from them.

Bale's outstanding performances this season has led to people comparing the Welshman with Ronaldo and Messi, but the Spurs forward is keeping his feet firmly planted on the ground.

"I think anybody would love to be mentioned alongside the best in the world," the 23-year-old said in an interview with Sport magazine.

"It's flattering, but I don't really look too much into it. I don't get the newspapers or read too many reports, so I don't really know how much hype there is.

"Obviously my friends tell me things, but I just treat every day as normal and focus on my job.

"I don't model my game on Ronaldo's. I have my own way of playing and it's not exactly the same but we do have similar attributes.

"I just like watching the best players: seeing Messi and Ronaldo. I've watched Ronaldo in the past and you do take things from other people's games to try to improve as a player, which I have -- hopefully."
