President Obama took some heat last month from Republican opponents after playing golf with Tiger Woods, so over the weekend he decided to stick to an indoor sport, as the commander in chief attended his daughter Sasha's basketball game.

According to ABCNews.com, President Obama attended the basketball game of his 11-year-old daughter Sasha Saturday in Chevy Chase, Md., something in the past he has said he always wants to do. Obama has spoken about being a supportive father when it comes to athletics and other activities with his daughters.

"With the girls, they just think of it as dad, that is what dads are supposed to do. They take it for granted," Obama told ESPN's Andy Katz in 2012.

Obama is known as an avid sports fan and he roots for many Chicago teams, including the White Sox and Bears. He is a frequent player of basketball himself and the President also fills out a bracket for the NCAA tournament each season for ESPN.

"But what was fun, this is now the third year that the team has played together, and to see them all develop at different paces, to get better and start thinking as a team and to feel good when the team does well, to pick each other up when something is not going well, you can't beat it," he said, "you can't beat the satisfaction."

Obama will be attending the Gridiron Dinner Club for the second time, according to ABC. The event has a number of journalists and politicians in attendance and it will be the second time the president has made an appearance since 2011.

Obama spent time with Tiger Woods in Florida for vacation last month and many Republicans made a point to argue about the large tab for secret service and local law enforcement he racked up, implying that they would rather the president have less security.
