ACC Basketball Tournament Schedule 2013: Quarterfinals Brackets Have UNC, Duke Headlining Matchups

Mar 15, 2013 12:10 PM EDT

As the ACC Conference Tournament rolls along, only the best of the best remain. Today, the ACC features a full sled of games as takes from the first round advanced to the quarterfinals giving top ranked teams opponents to face. Check out the scheduled matchups for the ACC quarterfinals taking place on Friday.

First up and ready for action are Miami (1) vs. Boston College (8) at 12 p.m. ET. Both squads saw each other twice during the regular season with the Hurricanes taking both games, sweeping the series.

Following this matchup in the Greesnboro Coliseum, watch Virginia (4) vs. NC State (5) at 2 p.m. ET in what should be a very enticing matchup as both teams met at the end of January. That game ended 58-55 in face of Virginia. NC State is fresh off an 80-63 victory over Virginia Tech.

The big ballers hit the floor in the evening sessions.

First up at 7 p.m. ET, watch Duke (2) vs.Maryland (7). Maryland is coming off a 75-62 victory over Wake Forest and they will look to try to get past this ACC powerhouse. Both teams split the season series as Duke took the first meeting in January 84-64, but then dropped their February meeting, 83-81 snapping a six-game winning streak.

The final game played tonight features UNC (3) vs. Florida State (6) at 9 p.m. ET. Florida State defeated Clemson 73-69 avoiding an upset. They lost both games against UNC this season. The first matchup was close as Duke won 77-72, but when they met at the beginning of March, Florida State lost 79-58.

As you can see by the rankings on the right side of the teams, there were no upsets in the first round of the ACC tournament. However, as the competition stiffens, look for matchups to become increasingly closer as nobody wants to go home as they will attempt to claim the ACC title.

The Florida State Seminoles are the defending 2012 champions. They will put their title on the line once again tonight in Greensboro.
