The Miami Hurricanes have had a season for the ages after winning both the ACC regular-season title and the conference tournament, but they will move on into the Sweet 16 against Marquette without one of its main players, as Reggie Johnson will miss the game.
According to ESPN.com, sources told the Associated Press that Johnson needed surgery to repair a meniscus issue and he will be out of Thursday's game against Marquette. Johnson was injured in the final minutes of Miami's win in the East region against Illinois, but he could return if the team advances to the Final Four with a win against either Indiana or Syracuse over the weekend.
The university released a statement about the injury and said that Johnson was injured with 15 seconds left in the game, after appearing in 18 minutes total. During the season he has played in 26 games and has provided size for the team in the middle while averaging nearly seven points and five rebounds.
Miami will have a tough time dealing with Marquette down low without Johnson, as Marquette is third-best in the tournament with 31 offensive rebounds.
