First, however, let’s look at the matchups.
The Indians will have Brett Myers on the mound and he’s looking to revive his season with Cleveland. However, if there’s any good news for the Blue Jays’ offense, which has struggled so far early on in the season, is that Myers had a terrible Spring Training. Myers went 2-3 with a 9.00 ERA. That’s a run per inning. He pitched 21 innings in spring and game up 21 earned runs.
On the hill for the Blue Jays, they will have the newly acquired, Mark Buehrle. He pitched average baseball in spring posting a 1-0 record with a 4.50 ERA allowing nine runs over 18 innings.
The Blue Jays hope Buehrle can give them a chance to win as the last thing they’d like to do is get swept in their own home, in front of an excited crowd awaiting a season of what’s supposed to be great baseball in Toronto.
So far, the Indians have defeated the Blue Jays 4-1 and then 3-2. The games have been close, but the Blue Jays bat lack aggressiveness and have been struggling. If there is any good news for the Blue Jays it’s that Jose Bautista and Melky Cabrera have had success against Myers. Bautista is hitting .429 in seven at bats with a homer and four RBI. Cabrera on the other hand is 2-5 in his career against Myers.
As for the Indians against Buehrle look out for Lonnie Chisenhall who has two hits against him and both have been homers. Mike Aviles is hitting .270 in 37 career at bats with four RBI against Buehrle. Michael Bourn is hitting .429 in seven at bats and an RBI. Nick Swisher has hit .400 in 10 at-bats. So it looks like Buehrle will have to be careful tonight.
