New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox Score: Updates of Game Between A.L. East Rivalry

Apr 04, 2013 06:50 PM EDT

If you can't watch the game, check out the score of the New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox as first pitch is a little after 7:05 p.m. ET. The Yanks will be looking for their first win of the year as the Red Sox will attempt to sweep the Yanks at home in what probably will be an empty Yankee Stadium. Check out the score of the ball game and stay up to date with every play. First, let's look at the pitching matchups.

Two veterans take the hill for the Yankees and Red Sox. Andy Pettitte brings his 17-year resume to Yankee Stadium as he will be on the mound for the pinstripes once again. He came back last season and pitched successfully, despite suffering and injury and having to sit idle for the rest of the year. In 21 games, Pettitte went 11-3 in 2012 and posted a 3.28 ERA. Yes, he's 41, but he's still very effective.

The Yankees will need pitching and especially today after surrendering 15 runs through the first two games of the season. Pettitte brings his experience and his cool spirits to the mound. He'll be opposed by a guy that's far from cool and collective, Ryan Dempster is a jokester in the clubhouse, but when it comes to the game, he's all business.

Dempster struggled in 2012. He split the season in Chicago with the Cubs and then played the second half with the Texas Rangers. The Red Sox, knowing they could use reliable starting pitching, went after Dempster who, when healthy, can pitch 200 innings and make at least 30 starts.

Last season, between Chicago and Texas, Dempster went 12-8 with a 3.38 ERA. The Red Sox could use numbers like that in 2013. They aren't expected to perform, but they could use solid numbers from a third starter.

The Yankees aren't expected to perform either as their guys are expected to get out of the disabled list far too late to save the Yankees' season.
