Serena Williams had her match postponed, but she is back in action on Friday as was her sister as play continued at the 2013 WTA Tour Family Circle Cup. Venus Williams prevailed after being delayed by rain in three sets over fellow American Varvara Lepchenko while both sisters prepare for the upcoming French Open.

The Williams sisters were under scrutiny the past few days as a documentary about them was released and they had mixed reactions to it. The doc showed many tough moments, including 2011 when the two dealt with serious injuries as well as the incidents at the US Open with Serena and at Indian Wells, where the two sisters have not played since.

Williams easily won the opening match of the tournament for her in straight sets and she did much better than Stephens, who lost in less than an hour. Venus Williams is playing also and other players that made it through included Jelena Jankovic and Melanie Oudin as well as Jessica Pegula, who upset Mona Barthel in straight sets.

Williams had a shaky start while going down 3-2 and later was able to bounce back to win the next five games and is now the oldest woman to have the number one ranking in the world. The 21-year-old Giorgi put up another tough fight, much like she did last year when she made it t0o the fourth round at Wimbledon.

Williams took down Camila Giorgi 6-2, 6-3 on Tuesday and showed that she had no issues going from hard courts to clay ones as she moves on in the tournament. Williams has been sharp the past two months and she was not part of one of the upsets going on during the day, as Sloane Stephens lost to Bethanie Mattek-Sands.

Serena Williams is getting herself set up for the French Open later next month and she will get another tune-up against fellow American Mallory Burdette in the Family Circle Cup Women's Singles third round from South Carolina.
