Novak Djokovic is one of the best tennis players in the world and he loves nothing more than representing his country Serbia, which is one reason why he was able to gut through his Davis Cup match on Sunday against American Sam Querry despite being injured in Idaho.
According to ESPN.com, Djokovic won his match in four sets to give Serbia the lead over the US and he won nine games in a row towards the end of the match to take it in four sets 7-5 6-7 6-1 6-0 and that gave his team the definitive win. The team now advances to play Canada, who advanced after Milos Raonic won in Vancouver while the Czech Republic and Argentina will battle on the other side of the draw.
Czech Republic won the Davis Cup last season and now Djokovic has some momentum heading into the next stage after being so tough on the court. The star was caught crying on Serbian television after the match and said that he was injured on his ankle and that he was very emotional after the match. The tennis star will have his injury examined by doctors and should be okay based on initial tests.
Czech Republic, who won the Davis Cup last season, safely made it through to the last four when Lukas Rosol beat Evgeny Korolev 7-6 6-7 7-6 6-2 to clinch a 3-1 win over Kazakhstan.
Djokovic fell and twisted his right ankle in the third game of the opening set against Querrey. The world number one required treatment to the injury and struggled to move freely.
Canada made the World Group semi-finals for the first time when Milos Raonic beat Andreas Seppi 6-4 6-4 3-6 7-5 in the first reverse singles in Vancouver, securing a 3-1 lead.
Argentina earned their place in the last four when they won a nail biting tie with France in Buenos Aires that went the distance. Argentina led 2-1 overnight but France levelled the scores when world number eight Jo-Wilfried Tsonga defeated Juan Monaco 6-3 6-3 6-0.
