The Seattle Seahawks have been one of the most active teams in free agency this offseason and with good reason, as they feel they are just a few moves away from a possible Super Bowl run and they added another player to the fold on Wednesday with cornerback Antoine Winfield.

According to ESPN.com, Winfield is close to a contract with the Seahawks and despite being 36-years-old, the team sees him as a slot corner alongside Richard Sherman and Brandon Browner, who are considered to be the best cover duo in the league. Winfield was released earlier in the season by the Minnesota Vikings and if he joins he will add to an already strong secondary with the corners and Earl Thomas at safety.

Sherman and Browner had 11 picks last season and Sherman has emerged as one of the best cornerbacks in all of football along with Darrelle Revis. The Seahawks went 11-5 last year and made the playoffs behind Russell Wilson and the team has not stopped improving all offseason.

The team traded for Percy Harvin from the Vikings and also signed Cliff Avril before dealing backup quarterback Matt Flynn for draft picks. The team also brought in Brady Quinn as a backup for Wilson and after ranking sixth in the league in passing yards per game on defense, adding Winfield will only add strength.

The Seahawks were one of the most explosive teams in the NFL and the team ranked sixth in rushing yards per game and 10th in rushing yards allowed on defense. The Redskins were also interested in Winfield and now they could go after Desmond Trufant in the draft.
