Manchester United are preparing a summer bid for Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye, while Thiago Silva has urged Wayne Rooney to join him at Paris Saint Germain.
United have been in need of a midfielder for quite a while now, and with Tom Cleverley not quite clicking this season, it seems like Sir Alex Ferguson might finally go into the market for a player in the middle of the park.
Cabaye has been one of the Premier League's best midfielders ever since making his move from French side Lille in 2011. The 27-year-old is a perfect deep-lying playmaker, who can pick out passes, but also read the game well and make the necessary tackles.
While Michael Carrick might be a similar player to Cabaye, a midfield partnership of the two in the middle could work out quite well with understanding.
Ferguson, whose side pulled off a 2-0 win over Stoke on Sunday to go 15 points clear in the English Premier League, has set his eyes on Cabaye, and is ready to make a bid of £20 million ($30 million), according to the Daily Mirror.
United chief scour Martin Ferguson, Sir Alex's brother, was seen at St James' Park during Newcastle's Europa League second leg against Benfica. Martin was scouting Benfica defender Ezequiel Garay and playmaker Nicolas Gaitan, but was also keeping a keen eye on Cabaye, according to the report.
Meanwhile, PSG defender Silva has implored Rooney to sign for PSG if he plans to leave Old Trafford at the end of the season.
Rooney has been the subject of much speculation this season, with several reports suggesting his time at United could be coming to an end. Ferguson has of course vehemently denied the reports.
PSG, though, did express their interest in the England international recently. Zlatan Ibrahimovic also asked Rooney to join him at PSG, and now Silva has joined the chorus.
"If he is thinking of a new challenge there is no better place to be than here," the Brazilian defender said.
"This team will win the Champions League in the next three or four years. It is the most exciting project in football."
