The New York Jets have been one of the most talked about teams during the offseason due to their handling of the Darrelle Revis situation as well as the talk with Tim Tebow's issues and now the team is looking to improve on the ground, as they are targeting a trade for New Orleans Saints running back Chris Ivory.
According to ESPN.com, just as reports came out about putting Revis's trade on hold until the team can see him in action, the Jets have shown interest in making a deal with Chris Ivory, who is a restricted free agent and had a visit with the Jets. The report says that Ivory has been the odd man out with the Saints and league sources confirmed that he had a visit on Friday with the team after getting a second-round tender from New Orleans. The one-year, $2.023 million contract would net the Saints the Jets' second round pick at 39 if they did not match the offer sheet.
The Jets do not want to give up that pick, but the team could be willing to trade a alter pick and since the Saints are willing to trade Ivory according to sources, the deal could fit together. Ivory has put up solid numbers with the Saints, but he has been dealing with injuries since being the leading rusher for the team in 2010 and is now stuck behind first round draft pick Mark Ingram as well as Pierre Thomas and Darren Sproles.
The Saints could be lured into a trade since they have only five picks in the draft after losing some picks in the bounty scandal and even though the Jets signed Mike Goodson, they need depth after losing Shonn Greene to the Titans as they have Bilal Powell and Joe McKnight on the roster and now do not even have a 1,000-yard rusher.
Ivory could provide depth and toughness for the team as reports came out the Mark Sanchez was mentioned in the Revis trade talks with Tampa Bay. The team is also trying to deal Tim Tebow, but so far no team has been interested and they may just release him after the NFL draft.
