Adam Scott became the first Australian to wear the green jacket at Augusta National after defeating Argentine Angel Cabrera in a playoff for the victory, erasing the memories of two near wins at the British Open and at Augusta.
Scott defeated Cabrera after a fierce finish that saw the Aussie take a nine under lead into the clubhouse before Cabrera hit an amazing shot on 18 to tie and send it to extra golf. As the rain came down the two players made near identical shots on the hole to advance and on number 10 Scott pulled it off after a missed birdie shot from Cabrera.
Scott is now third in the overall rankings behind Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy after the win, moving up from number seven when he started the tournament. Scott was nine under 279 for the tournament and McIlroy finished the event with a 69 to stay respectable after struggling early. Woods was in the thick of things for most of it, but a controversial drop penalty changed the outcome.
Cabrera amazingly went from 269 all the way to 64 after making it ingot the final holes and he understands what Scott is dealing with as the first Australian, as he himself was the first man from Argentina to don the green jacket.
