The Boston Marathon bombing shook the entire city of Boston and the country and after the incident the NBA decided to cancel the Celtics-Indiana Pacers game and did not schedule a makeup date, as the teams are totally locked into their playoffs seeds already, so technically the game does not matter and after the attack the NBA felt that was right.
According to ESPN.com and STATS, the move will be the first time in NBA history that not all the teams in the league have played the same number of games. The Celtics and Pacers will now have 81 games for the 2012-2013 season, leaving them as the only two with that mark. The teams are locked into their playoff seeds and with the regular season ending on Wednesday, there was not much of a point to playing the game.
The Bruins and Senators game in the NHL was postponed and some players did not know about it until they showed up to the locker room that day. The Bruins do not need to be back in TD Garden for the playoffs until game 3 and the Bruins have a home game on Wednesday in Boston against the Sabres.
All sporting events will be on high alert for a while in the city until more is learned about the attacks.
