Tampa Bay Buccaneers Draft Rumors: Dee Milliner Top Target Without Darrelle Revis Trade As Ronde Barber Deciding On 2013 Season Return

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been locked in talks with the New York Jets in a trade for cornerback Darrelle Revis and since the deal has stalled, that has left longtime veteran Ronde Barber wondering what to do as the 2013 offseason program begins.

According to the Tampa Bay Times, Barber was not present at the start of the offseason program and he is still contemplating on whether to play again this season, which would be his 17th in the NFL. Coach Greg Schiano said that Barber would have the time he needs to make a decision and since he is not under contract he does not need to be at the program workouts.

Barber previously had meetings with management about a possible role this season and with the Bucs signing Dashon Goldson at safety to a contract, it could complicate matters as Barber played some free safety last season. Barber has been a solid player for most of his career, but since he is getting old the Bucs may not want to use him at cornerback and it is unclear if he could take a backup role with the team.

Barber could move on to another franchise, but chances are he would like to remain to the team where he started his career. Goldson is an All-Pro player and Barber could serve as a backup if he feels he can contribute. The Bucs have a nice amount of cap space and have been trying to deal with the Jets, but the trade has been hung up on draft picks, as the team wants the Bucs first round selection.

If the trade continues to fall through, the Bucs could trade up or get lucky if Alabama corner Dee Milliner falls to them, as he is considered to be the top cornerback in the draft. The Bucs were solid last season on rush defense, but the team ranked last in passing yards allowed per game, which is one reason why they are trying to get Revis.
