Paris Saint Germain sporting director Leonardo shot down rumors of Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney agreeing a deal with the French club, while also insisting the cash-rich side had not made an offer for Cristiano Ronaldo as yet.
Rooney has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford for quite some time now, and the rumors gathered pace when former PSG advisor Michel Moulin claimed a deal had already been done.
PSG, backed by Qatari owners, are one of the richest clubs in Europe at the moment, and have also been strongly linked with a move for Real Madrid superstar Ronaldo, who incidentally is also a reported summer target for Manchester United.
However, Leonardo insisted the club had not made an offer for either of the two players, with Edinson Cavani also not in their plans at the moment.
"On Ronaldo, there has never been an offer," he told Gazzetta dello Sport. "I've never heard anything about Rooney or Cavani either.
"I do not rule out big signings, but only if there is a suitable opportunity.
"We do want a larger squad with adequate cover in all areas in order to avoid the sort of problems we had in January in midfield with all the injuries and suspensions."
PSG manager Carlo Ancelotti also played down the chances of a move for Rooney at the end of the season, saying United were unlikely to let go of their player.
"Wayne Rooney is one of the best strikers in the world," the Italian was quoted as saying by L'Equipe. "I think he is impossible to buy. He is an idol for Manchester United."
So far, PSG have mainly bought players from the Serie A, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva coming from AC Milan in a blockbuster deal, while the likes of Ezequiel Lavezzi, Javier Pastore, Marco Verratti and Thiago Motta have also switched from Italy in the recent past.
Leonardo admitted the club would look at markets in Spain and England as well in the summer, rather than just focusing on Italy, while admitting his admiration for the French players playing in the Premier League. "The market is opening up," he added. "We may look in Spain or England.
"The landscape in football is changing. That's one of the reasons why guys like (Eden) Hazard and (Olivier) Giroud have left (France). But I like the idea of luring great French players back.
"I am not talking about (Karim) Benzema, but about players such as (Samir) Nasri, (Franck) Ribery and (Yohan) Cabaye. I don't know whether it's realistic, though, as I have not had contact with any of them."
