The New York Rangers are currently tied for eighth place in the East and fighting for position, but next season they already know a couple games that they will play, as the league is planning to hold multiple games at Yankee Stadium featuring the Blueshirts.
According to ESPN.com, sources said that the Rangers would be playing two games outdoors at the stadium next season, one against the Islanders and one against the Devils. The first game will be against New Jersey on Jan. 26, while the Islanders game will be on Jan. 29. The games will happened ahead of Super Bowl XLVIII, which will be on Feb. 2.
The deals are not yet finalized which is why the courses stayed anonymous and the NHL is also holding the Winter Classis on New Year's, with the game going down in Ann Arbor, Mich. on Jan. 1, 2014, while other games will feature Los Angeles, New York, Chicago and Vancouver. The NHL announced last week that the Maple Leafs and Red Wings will play at Michigan Stadium after losing out this year due to the lockout.
"We set the bar pretty high on all these. If you're going into a market that's had [a Winter Classic], the bar is high," Collins told Custance. "If you're going into a market that hasn't had it ... they've seen it, they've heard about it and they want to experience. The bar is possibly even higher for them."
