NBC Sports announcer Al Michaels was charged with driving under the influence and attested over the weekend in California, according to a report from the Associated Press. Authorities said the famed broadcaster was pulled over at around 10:30 PM on suspicion of drunk driving on Friday at a DUI checkpoint when officers saw him make an illegal U-Turn.

Santa Monica police sergeant Richard Lewis said that Michaels was taken into the police station and was recorded as being over the .08 blood-alcohol legal limit and was booked on suspicion of DUI and was held for five hours before being released. The report says that Michaels will next have to appear in court on June 26.

Michaels is one of the broadcasters for "Sunday Night Football" on NBC and is one of the most well-known sports personalities on television. Michaels has won numbers Emmy Awards and is known for his calls during the 1980 Miracle on Ice game with the US hockey team at the Olympics.

"We are aware of the situation and we've been in contact with Al," said Greg Hughes, a spokesman for NBC Sports. "We have no further comment at this time."
