Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admitted he was concerned about the possibility of Chelsea making a statement in the summer transfer window, while saying Jose Mourinho would be a "good solution" to take over at Stamford Bridge.
Wenger has struggled to cope with the financial muscle of the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City, which has in turn led to Arsenal failing to mount a sustained challenge in the English Premier League for a number of years now.
The Arsenal boss believes Chelsea are ready to spend big in the summer, having disappointed in the Premier League and the Champions League this season.
The Blues have reportedly already agreed a deal for Andre Schurrle from Bayer Leverkusen, while Radamel Falcao looks like he is ready to make a move to Stamford Bridge.
"I'm afraid of what Chelsea can do in the summer," Wenger told Eurosport. "We have to be prepared for them to be one of the biggest movers in terms of investment once the window opens.
"Even though they already have a great base to their squad, notably their young players such as Oscar, Juan Mata, Ramires and Eden Hazard, I think they will be busy during the transfer window.
"We've heard a lot of talk about Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao. Some people say it's already a done deal, but I've heard nothing."
Reports have continued unabated about the possible return of Mourinho to Stamford Bridge, with several outlets suggesting a move had already been agreed.
Wenger has no doubts about the fact that Mourinho would be the ideal candidate to take over at Chelsea, but believes interim manager Rafa Benitez is doing a really good job at the moment.
"I think Chelsea currently have a great coach in Rafa Benitez, but if they part ways at the end of season, of course Jose Mourinho would be a good solution for Chelsea," Wenger added.
"Mourinho is one of the best in the world. But I consider Benitez to be doing a good job at Stamford Bridge.
"Honestly, I'm not really well informed about the possibility of Mourinho returning to Chelsea.
"Usually, I'm not a big fan of these kinds of rumors, but that's what we get used to reading in the newspapers."
