Tampa Bay Buccaneers Rumors: Tim Tebow or Mike Glennon Starter Option Over Josh Freeman? Greg Schiano Still Not Sold On Quarterback After NFL Draft 2013

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers entered the 2013 Draft with a number of needs to address and one of those for head coach Greg Schiano was the quarterback position, which is one reason why they selected North Carolina State starter Mike Glennon in the third round of the draft.

According to NFL.com, the Buccaneers liked what they saw in Glennon in the lead up to the NFL draft and after the news on Monday that Tim Tebow was released, he could also be in the mix for a position on the roster despite the team also having Dan Orlovsky as a backup. Glennon was selected in the third round ahead of names like Matt Barkley and Ryan Nassib and despite the fact that Bucs safety Ronde Barber said the GM is "married" to Freeman, coach Schiano is not since he wasn't the one who drafted him, which is one reason why Glennon was brought in.

Freeman has support from everyone in the organization except for Schiano according to the report, giving Glennon a real shot to compete as the team heads into offseason workouts and GM Mark Dominik said to reporters that Glennon has an NFL arm and could be a solid player for a long time. The team also said they liked Glennon as an injury replacement for Freeman in case anything happens, but that also could mean Glennon could shine when given a chance.

The team already improved the league's worst passing defense by trading for Darrelle Revis and signing Dashon Goldson and the addition of Glennon is another positive from the offseason. Schiano wants someone to compete with Freeman and now with Glennon in the fold, the team could also bring in Tebow just to give him a shot and now that he is released it is not as much of a risk if they had to trade for him. Tebow could be the one to push Freeman enough while also showing off what he learned this offseason while working out with Chris Weinke and Vinny Testaverde.
