Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid drafted Eric Fisher with the number one overall pick despite having a franchise left tackle and now that a deal to Miami is dead for Branden Albert, the coach has started to figure out how he wants to deal with his offensive line.
According to ESPN.com, Reid said on Thursday that he will keep Albert at left tackle while Fisher works out at right tackle to start. Reid explained that he likes to use the five best players he has regardless of position and that despite the fact that Albert was in trade talks doesn't mean the Chiefs don't want to sign him. The team gave him the franchise tag after the offseason and Albert has said he would like some long term stability wherever he ends up.
The Miami Dolphins appeared to be the best team for the trade and now that the deal is basically dead and he now has a tender that will pay him about $10 million next season. The Chiefs debated between Fisher and Luke Joeckel and decided on Fisher.
"Well, yeah, that's right," Reid told SiriusXM, according to ProFootballTalk.com. "I'm gonna play the five best guys. You saw me do that with Shawn Andrews in Philadelphia. Shawn Andrews was as good an offensive lineman as I've ever seen at the college level and then he came to the pros and he was the same thing. He was one of the best I've ever coached, now, as far as being athletic and being a football player. Well, we had two veteran tackles who were two pretty stinking good players and so we put Shawn at guard and he ended up being a Pro Bowler there."
