Tottenham Manager Andre Villas-Boas Hits Back at Arsenal Goalkeeper Szczesny's Comments as Race for Champions League Heats Up

Tottenham manager has strongly hit back at comments made by Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny, who said Spurs do not have the quality to finish in the top-four of the English Premier League.

Szczesny has previously made his dislike for Tottenham clear and now took a potshot at Arsenal's rivals by claiming they were not good enough to qualify for the Champions League.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs are battling for the final two spots in the top four, with the latter able to move above Arsenal with a win over Chelsea in their Premier League game at Stamford Bridge Wednesday.

"I think it would be a little more tolerable if it had come from a genuine Arsenal fan," Villas-Boas said. "But it is coming from an Arsenal player who is probably only passing by to another club, or he's not going to stay there for life.

"In the end, does he mean exactly those words from the heart? He doesn't for sure.

"I wouldn't say an Arsenal fan that has just arrived in that club in the last couple of years is entitled to have so much hatred towards Tottenham, like he seems to have."

Szczesny of course has been at Arsenal for a little more than two years, joining the North London club as a youngster in 2006.

However, the goalkeeper will have egg on his face if Spurs do pull off a vital win over Chelsea and go on to win their remaining two games, which would then mean Arsenal finishing outside the top four, particularly if Chelsea also win their final two games of the season.

Villas-Boas will be extra motivated to do well at Stamford Bridge after his acrimonious exit from Chelsea early last year.

"It is a club which I have gone past," the 35-year-old said. "I have good and bad memories like everyone else, but it was a period which did not finish the way I would have liked.

"We have had an excellent season. We beat all the big teams in the country apart from Chelsea.

"We have an opportunity to go there and put our destiny in our hands. So we have motivation factors and we have the players' ability that is absolutely outstanding.

"It's a great, great fixture to have. The pressure is on everybody. Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham are so tight together. Three points covered by three points at this stage of the season is outstanding."
