The San Diego Chargers signed a number of their draft picks to contracts, including linebacker Manti Te'o, who was embroiled in a fake girlfriend hoax that was revealed after the season earlier in the year.
According to ESPN.com, Teo along with Keenen Allen and two other players signed contracts, with the linebacker agreeing to a four-year deal with the team. Te'o dropped out of the first round due to the scandal and his performance in the national championship game against Alabama in which he looked slow and missed some big plays.
The Chargers felt like they got value in Te'o after he slipped into the second round and the team also signed sixth round pick Tourek Williams and seventh round pick Brad Sorenson, a quarterback out of Southern Utah, while first rounder DJ Fluke and fifth round pick Steve Williams have not signed yet.
Te'o hasn't fully escaped his girlfriend story, as his fake girl Lennay Kekua was listed as part of the Maxim Hot 100 this year and was featured as a bikini against the air with no person in the picture. She landed at number 69 and was between models Anne V. and Nin Agdal and was selected for her great qualities. Tom Telesco and coach Mike McCoy said they had no issues with the girlfriend story and that Te'o impressed them with his work ethic and his interviews.
The story broke on Deadspin.com following a Heisman finalist appearance and blew up the sports media for a while, with all networks reporting on every angle of the story, including that he was duped by a man named Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, who tricked the linebacker into a relationship.
