Free agent running back Ahmad Bradshaw is still looking for a team after being released by the New York Giants earlier in the year and one place he could end up is down south with the Carolina Panthers, as they have dealt with injuries at the running back position over the past few years.
According to NFL.com, the Panthers have restructured the deal with DeAngelo Williams to keep him with the team for this season and likely beyond, as he now will be paid $5 million, but it will come as a signing bonus mostly so that his cap number is lowered and the $13 million salary in 2014-15 was figured out as well. There was a chance that Williams was going to get cut, but now he will remain with the team and despite being 30-years-old he will have a big part in the offense.
The team also has Jonathan Stewart, but he too has dealt with injuries over the past few seasons and the team may want some insurance and depth at the position. The team went 7-9 last season after a dreadful start and were solid in the running game with 130 yards per game, but depth could help and Bradshaw is a tough runner with Super Bowl experience, which is something that could be good for a young quarterback like Cam Newton.
Bradshaw could end up in a number of places, including Green Bay, back with the Giants or with the Pittsburgh Steelers, who were close to signing him at one point. Bradshaw is coming off his second 1,000 yard season despite having surgery on both of his feet and although he was set to make $3 million next season before he was cut, a team could likely sign him on a solid deal. The 27-year-old has dealt with injuries himself in the past, but he is one of the toughest players in the NFL.
Since the Packers selected Eddie Lacy and another running back in the draft and the Steelers took Le'Veon Bell, there's a chance both of those teams could be out of the running, but they also could see the value in adding a solid player like Bradshaw to the mix as well.
