Manchester United Transfer News: Michael Carrick Ready to 'Embrace the Challenge' Under New Manager David Moyes

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick said the entire team is looking forward to working under new manager David Moyes as the English Premier League champions head into an era without Sir Alex Ferguson at the helm at Old Trafford.

Moyes wasted little time in getting on with his new job, already making his presence felt at Carrington as he looks to familiarize with his new surroundings.

Ferguson was also there to help out the Everton manager and Carrick, who was voted the United players' player of the year, is ready to work under Moyes and see what the new manager has to offer.

"As players we are embracing the challenge," Carrick said. "For so long we have had the stability of knowing what to expect. We could turn up for preseason and know how we would be preparing.

"There are going to be certain things that are new. But many will stay the same of course because there is a structure there and there is not a lot wrong.

"We are all looking forward to it. We are looking forward to the new manager coming in, working with him, improving as a squad and taking the club forward."

Ferguson was most famous for his man-managing skills and more importantly instilling a winning mentality in every single member of the squad. Carrick, who has won five Premier League titles with United, is confident of maintaining the same spirit and attitude under Moyes.

"It is the mentality and desire and the enthusiasm never to give in," Carrick said.

"It has been there for so many years it is ingrained in the players now. Hopefully we will carry that on."

Ferguson did get a little emotional during his farewell game at Old Trafford a little over a week ago, but Carrick revealed it was "business as usual" during the final couple of weeks of the season, which culminated in the amazing 5-5 draw at West Brom in the final game of the season.

"It has been business as usual," he added. "He said a few thank yous after the game but generally it is as everyone has seen.

"He will have mixed emotions because it is a strange time for him, as it is for everyone at the club.

"We were just waiting for the last-minute winner from Ryan (Giggs) or Scholesy (against West Brom).

"It was one of those games. We are disappointed because we wanted to win the game and make it the last memory for the manager and Paul Scholes.

"But in the grand scheme of things it doesn't mean too much."
