The Grizzlies are undefeated at home. They looked pretty bad in Game 1, that is for certain. The Grizzlies 83-105 loss to the Spurs in Game 1 was their worst loss of the playoffs. Previously, they had lost to the Los Angeles Clippers, 102-91 in Game 1 of the first round of the NBA Playoffs. The Spurs put a beating on the Grizzlies and they did it in surprising fashion.
The Spurs shut down Zach Randolph, who has been an unstoppable force for the Grizzlies. However, this wasn't the more surprising part of their performance. The Spurs knocked down a franchise record, 14 threes in Game 1. Matt Bonner and Kawhi Leonard killed the Grizzlies from beyond the arc as they hit eight of these three-pointers for San Antonio. They might have to readjust their game as the Grizzlies are set to make adjustments. If there's something the Grizzlies have shown they can do is make adjustments. They noticed they couldn't completely stop Kevin Durant in their second round series, so they made sure they shut everybody else down leaving Durant out to dry. Eventually, Durant tired himself out by the fourth quarter where the Oklahoma City Thunder needed him the most.
San Antonio will be at home in Game 2, which is another thing they should take advantage of. Grizzlies don't lose at home and are a great road team. If the Spurs can't lock up Game 2, then they are at risk of falling behind 1-3 by the time Game 5 returns to San Antonio.
The Spurs have to repeat their Game 1 performance in Game 2. Their bench will be key once again as they scored 44 points in the series opener. The Grizzlies' bench wasn't far behind scoring 38 points as they were led by Quincy Pondexter's 17-point performance. Pondexter single-handedly started a rally that saw the Grizzlies shrink the Spurs double-digit lead to just six points. The Spurs, however, ran away with the game as the Grizzlies offense couldn't play consistent basketball on offense and had no solution for the problems San Antonio gave them with their offense.
