Seattle Mariners Rumors: Mike Zunino Gets Call Up As Team Needs Catcher Desperately, First Position Player In MLB From 2012 Draft

Jun 11, 2013 04:17 PM EDT

The Seattle Mariners have fallen on hard times after dealing with injuries and some tough offensive output and with the options limited at catcher the team was called up super prospect Mike Zunino, who is considered to be one of the best prospects in baseball.

According to Larry Stone from the Seattle Times, Zunino is getting the call up sooner than the Mariners expected, as he was drafted in the first round last year in 2012. The 22-year-old is the best prospect for the team right now and was selected third overall last season out of the University of Florida and he is considered to be a top prospect by sites like Baseball America and MLB.com.

Zunino has some pop and he put up solid numbers in the minors at Triple-A Tacoma with a .238 average and 11 home runs and while the average number is low, the Mariners need a solid catcher and right now they don't have it as Jesus Montero and Jesus Sucre are hurt. Zunino has been much better on the road, with a OPS of 1.139 on the road since the team plays in a pitchers park in the minors.
