The Denver Nuggets are coming off their best season in franchise history and despite doing that, the team has a new general manager and head coach in Brian Shaw, making the upcoming draft and offseason and important one for the club.
The Nuggets won 57 games last season to set a team record, but decided to part ways with Coach George Karl and now Shaw will step in to take over. Afetr Masai Ujiri left to take the Raptors GM job, Josh Kroenke was left in charge and now the team has big decisions to make, as they have the number 27 pick in the draft and some free agent questions with Andre Iguodala. Reports say that the team wants to re-sign him, but depending on how much he asks for, that could be tough.
New reports came out from Yahoo Sports that say the Nuggets are willing to trade the number 27 pick in the draft in the hopes of getting a future first round pick or possibly moving back further in the draft, as they want to keep their core intact. The team could also try to trade up, but they want to hold onto their young talent in the hopes of turning things around quickly. The team would be wise to get a future first round pick, as this draft is seen to be weak by scouts and that could end up paying off down the line.
The team also has to decide on what to do with Iguodala and whether he fits into the building plans with JaVale McGee and since he made over $14 million last season, it might be time to part ways. The team likes Iguodala's skills and his style as a defender, but as a 29-year-old he will be looking for a solid deal over multiple years and that could be tricky with the Nuggets, who also have Danilo Gallinari, Ty Lawson and Andre Miller to deal with.
Iguodala can be a primary scorer and he is one of the best defenders in the league, which would be why the Nuggets want him back. Shaw enters into the picture after the coach and executives of the year left the franchise and now he will try and get the team back to the playoffs. Shaw is considered one of the best assistants in the league and his hiring came after the team spoke with a number of candidates, including Lionel Hollins.
