Former New England Patriots star Aaron Hernandez is sitting in jail and contemplating his role in the death of Odin Lloyd as well as the decisions that got him there and it may have started after signing his $40 million contract, as he stocked up on guns in the fear that people wanted him dead.
According to TMZ.com, Hernandez was worried about his old lifestyle catching up with him after signing the deal with the Patriots, as sources told the website that some friends wanted money, time and respect after coming out of the same town they lived in. Hernandez had connections to a rough crowd after his father died at 16 and after he started smoking weed and getting into trouble, things continued for him in college at Florida.
After making it in the NFL and out of Bristol, he appeared to get things back on track, but according to the report, he was worried that someone, maybe friends to old gang rivals would try to kill him or wanted to see him dead. He is now facing five serous gun charges along with murder and one reason why he had so many guns may have been for protection.
The 23-year-old made it out of his tough neighborhood but based on what happened with Lloyd, clearly those connections stayed strong over time, strong enough to lead to a murder. He was living in a nice house with his fiance and child in Attleboro, but that didn't stop him from getting into incidents at nightclubs and now he is being investigated in a second murder as well, a double homicide from last year.
Hernandez asked for bail on Thursday for the second time but was denied and now he is in jail until he goes on trial, which could go next year. The death of Lloyd is classified as a homicide and he has been painted as the leader of it, possibly stemming from an incident the two had at a nightclub where Lloyd spoke top the wrong people.
From the report: "Sources connected to Aaron tell us ... he had been trying to move away from the gangster life ever since he signed his fat $40 million contract with the Patriots back in 2012, but it's not as easy as it sounds.
In fact, we're told Aaron believed people in the gangster world felt Aaron owed them something ... but it wasn't all about money -- they wanted his time and respect."
