Jamie Carragher believes Luis Suarez could yet stay with Liverpool come next season, while Paris Saint-Germain defender Mamadou Sakho admitted he is flattered to be linked with the Anfield club.
Suarez is expected to leave Liverpool this summer, after expressing his desire to look for a move away from the English Premier League.
Liverpool have insisted the Uruguay international is not for sale, but Real Madrid are thought to be preparing a big bid for the 26-year-old.
Carragher recently said loyalty should not be a factor in Suarez making a decision to stay with Liverpool, but is hopeful the forward will decide to honor his contract, which he signed last summer.
"I think he might stay," Carragher, who retired from the sport at the end of last season, told ITV. "Some big clubs will be interested in him because he is such a top player and that is something we have to accept.
"We can't complain about that, we bought him off Ajax.
"He signed a contract last summer and he has a few years left and hopefully we can keep him,
"He is very important. He was probably the best player in the Premier League last season and you want to be keeping your best players, which is what he is."
Meanwhile, Sakho has admitted he needs to make a decision over his future soon. The France international only has a year remaining on his contract with PSG, and was not first-choice last season.
The likes of Liverpool and AC Milan have shown an interest in signing the talented defender, but PSG have offered a new contract to Sakho, in a bid to keep him at the club, where he has spent his entire career.
However, playing time is key to the 23-year-old's decision, and Sakho said he will make a judgement on his future once he holds talks with new manager Laurent Blanc, who earlier this week replaced Carlo Ancelotti.
"I have to take a decision," Sakho said. "PSG are my club. I was born here and learnt my football here.
"I want to play for this club my entire life but it has to be clear that I don't want to sit on the bench.
"I did not play as much I like last season because of the manager's choices. Every player wants to play every week and I am no different.
"There is an offer on the table. With a new manager (Laurent Blanc), I can talk and see what he thinks.
"I am flattered to be linked with clubs of the history of Liverpool and AC Milan. We will see what happens in the near future."
