This was not an easy match for Novak Djokovic as the No. 1 seed had to earn his victory against Tomas Berdych. The first game set the tone for this match. Djokovic and Berdych played two deuces in the first game. Berdych, however, was able to hold serve.
The problem was that all throughout the first set Djokovic was also able to hold his serves. Djokovic put away the match in the tiebreak, winning 7-5.
Berdych completely took over in the second set as the hour-plus opening set didn't appear to bother the 27-year-old. He immediately took a 3-0 lead and that lasted until Djokovic decided to turn things up a notch. Aided by nine Berdych unforced errors, Djokovic closed out the set winning six of the last seven games played, taking a 2-set lead.
By the time the third set came around, Djokovic was rolling and Berdych was losing hope. Berdych appeared to be ready for another battle, but he quickly bowed out after falling behind 1-3 as Djokovic broke his serve, proceeding to hold his serves for the 6-3 victory in the final set.
Once again, it was a clean match for Djokovic who committed only 13 unforced errors, 12 less than Berdych. With the win, Djokovic will advance to his 13th consecutive grand slam semifinal. He will face Juan Martin Del Potro who, despite hyper-extending his left knee in back-to-back matches, destroyed David Ferrer in the quarterfinals.
The Semifinals will be played on Friday.
