Manchester United wants to make a move on Luka Modric from Real Madrid and while the club will listen to offers, one complication could be Real Madrid themselves, as they want Gareth Bale and in return they have asked for Modric.
According to ESPNFC.com, Modric is being asked to be part of a deal by Tottenham to send Gareth Bale to Real Madrid and that could change the plans of Manchester United, who have had some bad luck on the market this summer so far. The Spurs have been working slowly on a move, but the Bale transfer likely will happen his summer. Real has offered £80 million and reports say that Tottenham wants over £100 million.
Modric might be tempted to return in the deal and so far he has said that he is fine where he is and that the process will play out. He gave some accolades to his former teammate in Bale, saying he is a great player. More reports have come out that Modric will get a bid of £25 million after they have been looking hard for a midfielder, as Thiago Alcantara moved to Bayern Munich and Cesc Fabregas is staying with Barcelona.
The bid from Real is hard to turn down and adding Bale would be a great pickup for the club. According to ESPNFC.com, the club is looking to get Bale onto the team and realizes that despite the Spurs saying that Bale is not for sale, which has not stopped the pursuit for Real Madrid. The nine-time champions appear to be the front runners in the pursuit and Zidane would like it to get done quickly, as Bale is also being looked at by other clubs, including Manchester United. Zidane said that they feel that Bale is one of the best quality players in his league and that he is the main player being looked at by the club.
That sentiment was echoed by Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas, who said that Bale is as good as the top players in the world and that he changes a game by being in it, which is why Real wants him so badly. The Guardian is reporting that Real is going to go after Bale heavily despite the pushback and said that the reps for the player will meet with the Tottenham upper management to try and work out a deal before putting in a transfer request. The Spurs reportedly are willing to negotiate a deal with Real, but so far they have asked from some extravagant demands, including €98 million plus full-back Fabio Coentrao.
"I have a very good relationship with Bale, but I don't talk about players who aren't in the team," he told Marca. "All I can say is that he's a great player."
