It's August, meaning the U.S. Open is right around the corner. Are you already wondering what days to take off from work? There will be morning sessions almost every day as the tournament begins on Sunday, August 26 and concludes on Monday, September 9. Check out the game schedule along with the TV schedule of the final grand slam tournament of the year.
Of course, one of the important dates to keep in mind is the inauguration of the tournament, August 26. The first match begins a little after 11 a.m. ET with Men's and Women's Singles first round action. There will be main event matches held at Arthur Ashe Stadium at 7 p.m. ET every evening, until the semifinals of the tournament.
A lot of people like watching the tournament once the final eight remain on each side, but 2013 Wimbledon taught us that not every superstar will advance to the Elite Eight at a grand slam tournament. You name a star and chances are they were bounced early from the All English Club; Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Victoria Azarenka, Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga all were either eliminated or forced to exit due to injury.
Williams will be looking to regain her form as she's searching for her second grand slam title of the year. She won at Roland Garros this season and will go to New York in search of her fifth U.S. Open title. Over in Men's Singles, one man not mentioned on the list of top ranked players who suffered an early exit is this year's defending champ, Andy Murray. Nothing will be better than winning the 2013 Wimbledon title, but Murray will attempt to win his third grand slam. He has reached the finals in his last four grand slam appearances.
The true competition will begin when the quarterfinals start. Hopefully, they will be a little more interesting than Wimbledon's quarterfinals. You can catch the quarterfinals beginning on Wednesday, September 4 and Thursday, September 5. The Women's Semifinals will be played on Friday, September 6 and the Men's Semis will be played on Saturday, September 7. Women's Finals could be seen on Sunday, September 8, while the Men's Finals will conclude the tournament on Monday, September 9.
Can't make it to Queens and wondering where to watch the action?
CBS, CBS Sports, ESPN2 and the Tennis Channel will bring you all the action all the time. Plus, U.S.Open.org will more than likely stream some of the action live online for free.
