The New York Knicks are still trying to fill out their roster with names around Carmelo Anthony and Tyson Chandler and after signing JR Smith and Pablo Prigioni, the team is looking at adding former Hawks big man Ivan Johnson.
According to Pro Basketball Talk, the Knicks are in talks with Johnson and right now are stuck on some money. The 29-year-old was with the Hawks last season and came into the league in 2011 and along with Antawn Jamison, he could get the vet's minimum depending on how negotiations go. The Knicks already have 12 players on the roster and are still looking to add depth and along with forwards Amare Stoudemire, Tyson Chandler, Kenyon Martin and Andrea Bargnani, Johnson still could get some solid playing time.
Johnson is a 6'8" traditional power forward and can play solid defense and he would come after averaging 15 minutes with 6.6 points and 3.9 rebounds a game in 69 games with Atlanta and since he has a physical style of play, he could be perfect for the Knicks. The team also could go after Jamison and reports also have the team looking at another former Hawk in Jannero Pargo, who has played for the Wizards and Bobcats previously.
Pargo could be another guard option off the bench and after trying to sign Beno Udrih, they could go after him instead. Delonte West was rumored to be an option as well and the Knicks would like to bring in Johnson out of the group, as he has the size to give solid minutes off the bench at 255-pounds. Rumors also have the Knicks looking at Bobby Brown, Cole Aldrich as well as Shavlik Randolph and the team wants more depth on the bench to keep up with the Nets and the moves they have made, as well as the Miami Heat and Indiana Pacers.
"That would be a nice get for the Knicks," a source said. "I like him."
