As players fine tune their skills for the 2013 U.S. Open, the final grand slam of the tennis season, Lenny Kravitz will have his guitar ready to go as he will be capping off the Opening Night ceremonies with a live performance in Arthur Ashe Stadium. Kravitz will headline the ceremonies that will give way to the evening's first match.
Kravitz will be releasing an album in 2014, so it only makes sense to start promoting the project now. Kravitz, similar to tennis, is international. He has performed and collaborated with some of the world's most popular artists, ranging from Michael Jackson to Mick Jagger. Like an athlete, Kravitz has established records, only his are in music. From 1999-2002, he won the "Best Male Rock Vocal Performance", a feat no other male performer has accomplished.
If you can't make it to Queens, N.Y. and you're a Kravitz fan, ESPN will be airing the performance on August 26 as the U.S. Open's first round will be kicking off.
Andy Murray and Serena Williams will be defending their crown in the 2013 U.S. Open as they were the respective winners in last year's open. It was Murray's first grand slam title and it was the final tournament Andy Roddick played in his tennis career. Williams added another grand slam to her collection of 15 and will be aiming to claim her 16th in this tournament.
You can watch the 2013 U.S. Open on ESPN, CBS, CBS Sports and the Tennis Channel from August 26 until September 9.
