The Phoenix Suns won just 29 games last season and while there is hope for the future, the current roster has some trouble after star Michael Beasley was arrested for marijuana possession.
According to the Associated Press, the Suns star was arrested on Tuesday after he was stopped by police and the officers found weed in his car. The report says that an officer found three cigarettes suspected to contain marijuana after stopping his Mercedes and smelling the pot and now he could be faced with some discipline. Beasley said that after he signed with the Suns that his marijuana days were over, but obviously that is not the case.
Beaslye was former number two pick from the Miami Heat and he also had issues with marijuana while playing in Minnesota. He signed a three year deal worth $18 million with the Suns last year and he had an awful season in 75 games, averaging 10.1 points and 3.8 rebounds and also shot just 40 percent from the field. Beasley previously was ticketed for possessing marijuana and speeding in a Minneapolis and he also had drug issues while playing for Miami that he received treatment for.
The Suns now won't have to scramble much, but if they decide to release Beasley or trade him, they will need to replace him and that also means Eric Bledsoe, Archie Goodwin and Goran Dragic must step up this season. The Suns also have Caron Butler, Marcin Gortat and rookie Alex Len and they just got Miles Plumlee in a trade after shipping Luis Scola to the Pacers.
Beasley said at his press conference for the Suns that those days were behind him:
"I realize 10 minutes of feeling good is not really worth putting my life and my career and my legacy in jeopardy," he said then, "so I'm confident to say that that part of my career, that part of my life, is over and won't be coming back."
