The Aaron Hernandez murder case of Odin Lloyd has continued to grow and move since the New England Patriots star was arrested weeks ago and now his fiancé Shayanna Jenkins has been the target of a search, as police believe she may have helped hide the murder weapon in the case.
According to ESPN and court documents, Hernandez' girlfriend Shayanna Jenkins and a storage unit in her name were the target of a search, as police have yet to locate the murder weapon. Reports said that police looked into her about possibly disposing of evidence from video surveillance, cell phone messages as well as an interview with her sister Shaneah, who was reportedly dating Odin Lloyd at the time of his death. Jenkins has not been charged with a crime, but there is a chance she could get arrested if police find that she hid the murder weapon or disposed of evidence.
Police have characterized her as uncooperative, while her sister Shaneah has been working with police when asked, although she has not yet appeared in public since Lloyd's death, while he sister has come to court to see Hernandez. Jenkins initially told Hernandez to cooperate with police before he was arrested and she drove him to the station for an interview and when she started talking, Hernandez called her and told her to stop on advice of his agents. Jenkins was seen on video footage taking something out of the house and placing it in her trunk, leaving and then returning without it.
Carlos Ortiz, an accomplice arrested in the case, said Hernandez stashed the guns in his basement and police believed that Jenkins may have taken them out of the home. According to reports, Shaneah said that her and two uncles were at the home when her sister went into the basement with an empty bag. Reports say that Jenkins asked to borrow her car even though other ones were there and one uncle said that she may have been taking guns out of the house and police said they saw a "rigid" shape in the bag that could have been a gun or a lock box.
So far no charges have been filed against the Jenkins or any uncle. Aaron Hernandez's cousin Tanya Singleton was arrested after not appearing in front of a grand jury and police have ended the search of a lake where they believed that the murder weapon may have been disposed. The police have not found the murder weapon and Hernandez is in jail waiting for train and could face life in prison. He is next due in court on August 22.
