The MLB trading deadline already passed at the end of July, but with the waiver trading deadline still open, David DeJesus was traded from the Chicago Cubs to the Washington Nationals on Monday.

According to ESPN.com, DeJesus was traded before the Nationals played the Cubs on Monday and he was traded for a player to be named later. The report says that DeJesus got into the game later in the eighth inning as a pinch hitter and he got a standing ovation from the crowd. DeJesus thought he would be traded at the original deadline after rumors came up and now that he has been moved, there is a chance he will be moved again, as the Nationals placed him on waivers.

The team now has an option on his contract for next year for $6.5 million in 2014 and can buy him out for $1.5 million and there is a chance they will try and trade him again. The Nationals are out of the playoff hunt right now and are very far behind the Braves in the AL East and the DeJesus has played for the Cubs, who have been one of the worst teams in the league.

This season he is hitting .249 with six home runs and 27 RBIs and while the Nationals need his bat, the team likely will try and deal him again. The 33-year-old signed with the Subs before 2012 and is 33-years-old.
